Explore Kerhonkson & Accord, NY
Kerhonkson and Accord are just over the mountain from New Paltz. A more rural area that was once quite a destination and home to many of the old hotels and part of the "Borscht Belt". In recent years, both towns have become extremely popular with dual residents that want to be a bit more private and tucked away in the mountains.
Overall, it’s a beautiful area, surrounded by the Mohonk Preserve, Minnewaska State Park, and Sams Point Preserve. Each offers incredible hikes with some of my favorite places to swim (message me for suggestions).
A few of my favorite places to eat…
The Accord Market is located in a historic building on Main Street. Built in 1932, it was home to a Ford dealership and then a pottery studio. Now its become a favorite community-driven local grocer and general store — one that prioritizes local farms and makers and sustainable practices. You’ll find local meat, fish, eggs, bread, dairy and produce; beer and cider too! A good place to stop before your hike or to sit by a stream for the day.
Westwind Orchard in Accord, NY is a must. An apple orchard with acres of land to stroll, its become quite the gathering place and serves excellent homemade pizza and Italian food. Music on the weekends and a place for children as well as adults. Check out their homemade cider and wine.
Right next door to Westwind Orchard is Arrowood Farms — a sustainable farm brewery, distillery, dining, and event destination. You’ll find delicious food, live music, craft beer and spirits, and so much more (including food trucks on select weekends.)
The Stone House Tavern is charming with a warm and relaxed ambiance. Enjoy casual dining in an old stone house, dinner by the fireside in winter and outdoor seating and music on the weekends in the warmer months. They have an excellent menu with many choices to delight whether you’re vegan or a hearty meat eater. The buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with tomato and avocado is my favorite!
In a little store in Kerhonkson right on the main drag, you'll find Helena's Specialty Pierogies. Eat-in or take-out — they offer one of the best meals in town.
Kelder’s Farm in Kerhonkson, NY is home to the largest gnome in America! And, home to Bjorn Corn where they’ve perfected their signature recipe using the heat of the sun and enormous mirrored reflectors to collect the sun's rays and focus them on the kettles. It’s very cool to watch and sample. They also offer excellent local food, produce, a petting zoo, and berry picking in season.
