Get To Know Anne Rajs: Your Hudson Valley Real Estate Agent

It all started with a dream...

We fell in love with the Hudson Valley when our children were young and we would come to pick apples and pumpkins and get lost in the corn mazes. It was just about 90 minutes from the Upper West Side where we lived. As we observed our daughter’s loving nature and open space, we decided to start looking at properties in the area for a weekend home.

We decided on New Paltz, as we still had to commute and Adirondack Trailways got us to Port Authority in 90 minutes if we didn’t want to drive. It was easy. We found a charming old farmhouse on a dead-end road. Shangri-La.

Which is how I got into real estate…

The real estate agent we worked with knocked on my door continuously to have me come and work with his brokerage. So, I got my license and joined his company. That was many years ago and I’ve since moved on as people do.

Simply put, I love what I do. I’ve been selling real estate in the Hudson Valley and Ulster County, NY for 22 years. I know everything about the place (lol). I really do. I do this every day. I know every road. I know every town and the flavor of that town and how it may or may not work for you.

I know every property. I am a tenacious negotiator. And, I would love to make your dream of owning a home in the Hudson Valley region a reality. Get in touch. Call me. Let me make the process easy like a Sunday morning in Upstate, NY.

Late Summer at the Shawangunk Ridge

A few of my favorite things…

Hiking to Duck Pond in Mohonk Preserve from Butterville Road and up around the carriage roads. In the summer, you’ll find a path through open meadows loaded with wildflowers, milkweed, butterflies, bees, and every bird you can imagine. Clearly, I’m a nature lover.

The views of the village of New Paltz and beyond are incredible — a superb place to watch the sunset. A bike ride on the rail trail and then stopping at Walkill View Farm Market for locally made, Jane’s Ice Cream (chocolate chip mint cone for me!). So good. I often wander the nursery, wondering where I’ll put any more perennials... but I can never stop myself and always buy more.

I’m a member of the New Paltz Community Garden (technically called Gardens for Nutrition). It’s a plot of land on the river near Huguenot Street and there are about 40 people who rent plots every year. We garden, make friends, and share a love and knowledge for plants, gardening, and community. So much fun. Take a walk through but be sure to bring a basket. Everyone is willing to share — fresh flowers, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh herbs, and all the bounty. When in season, you’ll find me there after a day of showings.

Watching the sunset every evening over the Shawangunk Ridge, the town turns the most magnificent colors. You’ll find so many wonderful little spots to grab a drink and a bite as you watch the sun go down. In the winter months, the Barred Owl comes down from Canada to winter at the Shawangunk National Grasslands in Walkill, NY. If you show up in the early evening, just before, you can watch them come out to hunt. Sometimes twenty owls just hover over you with the beautiful mountain view in the distance.

I have too many favorite things; when we meet I’ll tell you more.
